Why I Use SOCIAL MEDIA IN THE CLASSROOM

Why I Use SOCIAL MEDIA IN THE CLASSROOM

There's are a lot of schools that don't allow any sort of sharing of photos or videos of students on social media. My school does not have that policy and here are 3 reasons why I choose to share photos and videos of my students on social media as well as best practices regarding parent communication. 3 Reasons: 1 ) Students are on social media 2 ) Parents get a glimpse into the classroom 3 ) It helps other teachers 'Stories from the Classroom' Podcast **Something I forgot to mention in the video but I feel is common sense is…

Dealing With STUDENT PUSHBACK | How To Debrief A Class

Dealing With STUDENT PUSHBACK | How To Debrief A Class

In this video, I share how I've dealt with student pushback in my classrooms. I'm looking at pushback as when students just aren't really digging what you're doing in the classroom. It's important to allow students to have a voice in your class, which I do through class debrief. I share how I conduct the debrief as well as times I've changed how I do things based on the feedback and times I stuck to the way I did things. Cliffs Notes version: 🍎Tell students why you're doing what you're doing 🍎Give them opportunities to give feedback 🍎Don't take the…

5 BIGGEST MISTAKES I’ve Made As A Teacher

5 BIGGEST MISTAKES I’ve Made As A Teacher

In the teacher social media space, there's been a lot of talk of how discouraging it could be as a teacher to see all these other teachers online doing amazing things in their classrooms while you feel you're just trying to make it through the day. I talk about why I think that happens but also wanted to share some of my biggest mistakes I've made as a teacher in an effort to avoid only sharing successes from the classroom. [This used to be a previous blog but thought I'd turn into a video reflection.] 1:16 - Feeling the need…

Thinking Through Fear of Failure | Jiu Jitsu Vlog

Thinking Through Fear of Failure | Jiu Jitsu Vlog

I figured the end of summer would be the ideal time for me to do a BJJ competition being that I'm out of school and have more time to devote to training. I have a little less than 2 weeks until the competition. In this video I reflect a bit on working through my fear of failure and general frustrations with my own progress lately. https://youtu.be/h5s2c-NZAcI

What I Can Say After 1 Year of Mandarin

What I Can Say After 1 Year of Mandarin

Just finished up my first year of International Baccalaureate Mandarin. Learned a lot! In this video I did a short description of a photo while trying to bring in various grammar rules I've learned. I feel I can read quicker than I can speak (as long as it's mostly characters I've learned). Writing is tough unless I've got a word bank. Didn't end the year as far along as I had hoped but I definitely did learn a lot.  Hoping to have the time to do Year 2 next year. https://youtu.be/eLeqmBvQ2EY Check out the video I made after 1 semester

Highs & Lows of 2017. Vision for 2018.

Spent a couple days reflecting on the highs and lows of 2017 and what I was looking towards in 2018.  Not so much resolutions but more just putting to paper some of the goals I've been developing in the latter half of 2017.  The reflection ended up covering a ton of different areas of my life.  I'll share a few of them here. SCHOOL Highs Amazing schedule for 17-18 year Got to just teach Pre-Algebra this year (as far as my math classes) Really great advisory group Feeling I have plenty of planning time to help make this years Pre-Algebra…
