The Best New Review Activity For Any Class

The Best New Review Activity For Any Class

In this video, I chat about a new review activity I tried called the Three 3's. I really enjoyed it. Students had 9 questions and they had to ask a different person each question and summarize their answer. Got them up out of their seats and working with students they don't normally work with. Can work in any content area. Here is the example I showed in the video for my Pre-Algebra class. I got the idea from a book called Total Participation Techniques. https://youtu.be/RXWDuAKq_Lk

The Best Review Game for Any Class

The Best Review Game for Any Class

I tend to avoid games in math class because they usually just reward the kids who can think the fastest. Trashketball is a little different. Kids are in teams of 2-3, a question is posed, and students work together to answer it. Only one person can write on the dry erase board per question. Students who answer correctly, get a chance to shoot a trashket (wadded up paper into the garbage). Different distances from the garbage are worth different points. Next question is a different person writing on the dry erase board and the game continues. I got this idea…

Post 03 – Programming Drones & Mathematical Properties

We're entering week 4 of school.  This will be the first full, normal week so far.  First day of week 1 was the odd first day schedule with assemblies and such, 2nd week had a 2-hr delay on Monday due to hurricane weather, and last week was labor day on Monday.  Glad to start getting into a normal routine.  But onto the reflection of last week. ROBOTICS & DRONING I spent most of my time last week reflecting on robotics.  I was trying out doing some drone lessons where students program the drone to do stuff.  Our first mission was…

Entry 33 – School Has Come To An End

Today is the first official day of summer for me!  Started out with breakfast for some friends, the first swim in a long while at the lap pool (taking a break for a week from the weight lifting as I've had some shoulder pain), and some good time to get a lot of little tasks done that have been on the back burner for a few weeks. My summer plans include doing some possible videography work (sent out a ton of inquiries this morning) and a trip at the end of summer to China!  Sara and I found a Groupon…

Week 35 – My Teacher Self Evaluation & End of Year Review Idea

Week 35 – My Teacher Self Evaluation & End of Year Review Idea

I thought for this week's reflection I would share my teacher self-evaluation that's due next week.  Quick recap of how things were going in class though: END OF YEAR REVIEW IDEA To help my students study for the final, I didn't really want to create a review sheet so instead I gave them access to all of the quizzes, tests, and reassessments I've made this semester.  I made a folder for each unit and put all the assessments (with answer keys) in those folders and then shared those folders with students and parents on our class website.  Got some positive…

Week 8 – Better Student Blogs and Plickers Test Review

Week 8 – Better Student Blogs and Plickers Test Review

It's the end of the second month of school.  This week we did our second round of student blogging and it went smoother than last time.  We also used Plickers for the first time and it went fairly well. MATH JOURNAL BLOGGING In Pre-Algebra, we're at the end of Unit 01.  Feels a bit slow but now that we've got all our systems and procedures in place, I know the rest of the units will go a bit quicker.  We had 7 different lessons in Unit 01 (number sets, properties, exponents, square roots, cube roots, order of operations, and scientific…
