Reflections on Each Day of 2019

Reflections on Each Day of 2019

I’ve always been one to quantify and record things.  Been journaling since I was a teenager, have always documented my workouts and runs throughout the years, and since 2014, I've been taking 1 second of footage everyday and compiling it into a short video at the end of the year. Here is 2019's '1 Second Everyday.' https://youtu.be/qyIg5Q8RGRI In regards to journaling, for a few years I’d only journal a few times a year when something was on my mind.  Additionally, I found that at the end of summers I often wondered ‘what the heck did I do all summer?’  To…

My 2018 | 1 Second Everyday

I've been doing these '1 Second Everyday' videos for about 4 years now. This year I decided to caption every video as well as make the background music for the video. Highlights of the year: - Trip to Switzerland - https://youtu.be/YeG2KCYh2Vk - Spearfishing in Bali - Getting my white/blue belt in BJJ - Competing in my first BJJ competition (did horrible but I competed) - https://youtu.be/gLznSZlrrM8 - Running a half-marathon - https://youtu.be/mipm1TmS79Y - Running the furthest I've ever ran before (16 miles) - Starting a YouTube Video Production class - My Austin Breakfast Tacos video - https://youtu.be/cQEk-c0cwB0 - Paying off…

Post 15 – What’s Been Going On?

Howdy folks, For any regular readers of the blog, you'll probably noticed that before this week, I haven't posted in a while.  This week will have like 5 posts; things I've been making things (podcasts & videos) and meaning to put here but just forgot so just scheduled them all to post this week (instead of putting them all up in one day). HOW'S PRE-ALGEBRA? My general lessons haven't been much different from last year.  I've been making a couple notes here and there for myself on tweaks to make for next year (change out this problem, practice this skill…

Entry 33 – School Has Come To An End

Today is the first official day of summer for me!  Started out with breakfast for some friends, the first swim in a long while at the lap pool (taking a break for a week from the weight lifting as I've had some shoulder pain), and some good time to get a lot of little tasks done that have been on the back burner for a few weeks. My summer plans include doing some possible videography work (sent out a ton of inquiries this morning) and a trip at the end of summer to China!  Sara and I found a Groupon…

A Look Back at My 2016

A Look Back at My 2016

This was a project a year in the making. I filmed about 1 second everyday this year and I tried to connect each second to the chosen theme for that month. Full disclosure, I didn’t really settle on this project idea until about mid-January so I conveniently just themed January ‘new year’ as all of those things were happening in…the new year…BUT THE REST OF THE MONTH’S VIDEOS MATCH THE THEMES WELL 😀 This is the third year I’ve done this project (first year with themes). https://youtu.be/Icgzlmty4vw I compiled the video easily using an app called 1 Second Everyday -www.1secondeveryday.com…

Week 35 – My Teacher Self Evaluation & End of Year Review Idea

Week 35 – My Teacher Self Evaluation & End of Year Review Idea

I thought for this week's reflection I would share my teacher self-evaluation that's due next week.  Quick recap of how things were going in class though: END OF YEAR REVIEW IDEA To help my students study for the final, I didn't really want to create a review sheet so instead I gave them access to all of the quizzes, tests, and reassessments I've made this semester.  I made a folder for each unit and put all the assessments (with answer keys) in those folders and then shared those folders with students and parents on our class website.  Got some positive…

Week 3 – 9/11, Slow Start, Math Rapping, and PE

It's Friday and my advisory is working on their Weekly Updates.  It's where they send an email to their parents and me and answer a few questions I have for them, usually around reflections on the week.  Here's what I posed to them this week: PART 1 Write about two meaningful and engaging discussions or activities you had in class this week. What were they about? Why were they interesting? What aha moments did you have? Do at least a paragraph for each of the discussions. PART 2 Do you ever have any recurring dreams? Describe them in detail. If…

A Belated End-of-Year Reflection : Lowlights

This is part 3 of my 2015 school year reflections. If you'd like, check out my previous entries: A Belated End-of-Year Reflection: Changes A Belated End-of-Year Reflection: Highlights In today's episode: LOWLIGHTS Lack of clarity in what to teach Coming from public school, you don’t really have to figure out what you have to teach. You’re given a scope and sequence; you know what units are to be taught and in what order. Sometimes a bit stifling and rushed, but you know what’s expected of you. I came in with a little bit more autonomy than I expected. The math…
