I Compared 30 Breakfast Tacos in Austin, TX!

I Compared 30 Breakfast Tacos in Austin, TX!

I asked Facebook and looked around at quite a few blogs to see which were the top breakfast taco spots in Austin. I went to 15 of them and ordered two tacos at each one; a bacon-egg-cheese and a fan-favorite. I scored each taco to find out which one would truly be the best Austin, TX breakfast taco! https://youtu.be/cQEk-c0cwB0 CRITERIA: FAN FAVORITE TACO : First impression score on a scale of 1-10 BACON-EGG-CHEESE : l rated the tortilla, the eggs, the bacon, the cheese, and any house salsa each out of 10 and take the average of the scores. Entry 29 & 30 – “I Learned More In The Last 45 Minutes Than I Have This Whole Semester”

Didn't reflect last week.  Had a big, fun retreat weekend and left right after class on Friday.  It was with Sara's residency program.  I made a fun video that has nothing to do with school that I'll just place right here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NliF41lAmHM Onto the school content: PRE-ALGEBRA We finished up our ratios/proportions unit last week and students took their summative test on Monday.  Our last lesson of that unit was using proportions to find the missing side of a similar figure.  The opening question ended up being not as effective as I had hoped: I chose this one because I…

Entry 27 – 6th Grade Fractions Project

Tried a new project this year to close out our fractions unit.  I talk about how I set it up, how it went, and feedback from students on what worked and didn't.  It involved finding fractions in recipes and converting them up to 3 1/2 times the amount of ingredients for a big family gathering as well as cutting them down to half the amount of ingredients for a smaller party for friends. Here's the rubric: https://goo.gl/T6BhXn

STUDENT STEALS CAMERA TO VLOG LIKE CASEY NEISTAT!

A few days ago, I brought my camera to work for a video I was making in math class. Max asked if he could run around with my camera filming things like Casey Neistat. Here's what he ended up with. A Look Back at My 2016

A Look Back at My 2016

This was a project a year in the making. I filmed about 1 second everyday this year and I tried to connect each second to the chosen theme for that month. Full disclosure, I didn’t really settle on this project idea until about mid-January so I conveniently just themed January ‘new year’ as all of those things were happening in…the new year…BUT THE REST OF THE MONTH’S VIDEOS MATCH THE THEMES WELL 😀 This is the third year I’ve done this project (first year with themes). https://youtu.be/Icgzlmty4vw I compiled the video easily using an app called 1 Second Everyday -www.1secondeveryday.com…

Entry 14 – The Most Important Thing We Do at My School

Each year, my school goes on a 3-day retreat called The Forward. It's sole purpose is to build community and strengthen relationships. We don't put an academic lens on it in order to make it 'worth it.' The time together in nature away from the city and technology makes it worth it.  This year we went the week before Thanksgiving.  I made a short video about it. Headwaters School - www.headwaters.org Music by Delicate Steve - http://www.delicatesteve.com The Forward was one of the first videos I made last year when I started making weekly videos.  The production quality is a…

Entry 12 – Halloween Costume Contests & Calculators

This week felt longer than usual. MONDAY - HALLOWEEN We had our annual Halloween costume contest at school. The school's birthday is Halloween. Some pretty fun costumes. I was a doctor. Figured I'd be nice to be Dr. & Dr. Gibson instead of Dr. & Mr. Gibson, at least for a day :) I made a short video of the costume contest: TUESDAY - PRE-ALGEBRA In a previous blog, I mentioned that this year I was going to let students use calculators during our 'Rational Number Operations' unit (doing all operations with positive and negative decimals and fractions). This unit…
