3 New Things I’m Trying This School Year

Hello all. This is my first written blog post in quite some time. Most of my posts have been sharing of all my other media (YouTube videos, podcasts, etc.) I'd like to spend a little more time on written work again this year. A few years ago I was blogging every week, sometimes reflecting on the week, other times just sharing thoughts about some topic in education. It's a different medium than video or audio as I found out when I was trying to think of video ideas a few months ago and I decided to look at some of…

Day in the Life of a Teacher | LAST DAY VLOG

I haven't done a 'day in the life' video in some time! This was the last day of classes right before finals week (so not the true LAST day but no more actual teaching). https://youtu.be/qJPoZo5ymsU 🎥Videos/resources referenced: How To Create & Manage A Classroom Economy - https://thomgibson.com/classroomeconomy/ 2015 'Day in the Life' - https://youtu.be/RpUe7LsmqeQ "10k Calorie Cheat Day Challenge" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNYGlTXDClA Mandarin progress (after 1 year) - https://youtu.be/eLeqmBvQ2EY Reflections on teaching YouTube Video Production - https://youtu.be/OQOTGmYXWVA "Mindfulness in the Classroom" (podcast) - https://wp.me/p3LdGY-QV "How to Debrief A Class" - https://youtu.be/0Ax9aZCpHxs Our big esports project - https://youtu.be/uIDAVzgexAE Another robotics project from…

We discuss: âš«What exactly are esports âš«What types of esports scholarships and programs are available at the college level âš«How an esports program is so much more than just playing video games âš«Why educators need to consider starting an…

No Classes & NOTHING BUT ESPORTS For A Week

The school I teach at does something called Project Week where students don't have any classes and they have all week to explore something they're interested or passionate about. I worked with a group of students who were interested in doing something with esports. Part of their project was to put on a Super Smash Bros Ultimate tournament. Super big thanks to Game Over Videogames for letting us host the tournament for free at their location! Check out the local retro-gaming shop in Austin, TX. https://youtu.be/uIDAVzgexAE Check out what the University of California - Irvine is doing at the collegiate…

As sort of a practice run, the students put on a video game competition at our school in preparation for the larger competition they will host for gamers in the city of Austin. Both tournaments are Super Smash Bro. Ultimate tournaments. This video is documenting that 'practice-run' tournament.…
